A cosmetic ingredient and self-perception
Published application: Queiroz, Vial and Aubert (2025), chapter 7, pp. 105–114.
Research question
How can the assessment of a cosmetic ingredient include the experience of one’s own appearance?
Protocol
A double-blind placebo-controlled study included 44 healthy volunteers aged 46–60. Participants applied placebo or a cream containing 1% EPS Mo278 twice daily for 28 days. Assessments combined skin measurements with verbal and vocal responses during a standardised mirror task.
Reported result
The chapter reports a greater reduction in vocal pitch and loudness in the ingredient group than in the placebo group during the mirror task.
Relevance and scope
This example connects cosmetic evaluation with a defined self-perception situation. Vocal changes require interpretation within that task; they do not alone establish a general improvement in self-esteem. No undocumented partner decision is attributed to the study.
