Define the question
What needs to be understood or decided? Prototype differentiation, a target emotional experience, a sensory parameter, a usage ritual or a proposed benefit. We specify the consumers, context and outcomes relevant to the question.
SCIENTIFIC APPROACH
A coherent study connects the question, the protocol, the observations and their interpretation.
EmoSpin designs research around the decision a partner needs to make. The methods follow the question, and the conclusions retain the conditions in which they were established.
AN INTEGRATED RESEARCH PATHWAY
The consumer, the context and the decision.
Comparisons, controls, timing and evaluation criteria.
RELEVANT, COMPLEMENTARY MEASURES
Self-reports · psychometrics
Voice · attention · choice
Psychophysiology · EEG
Selected according to the hypothesis; every project does not require every measure.
Confront agreement and disagreement within the experimental context.
Prototype selection · development hypotheses · supported benefit statements.
This diagram describes a research process. Agreement between measures must be examined; it does not automatically establish a specific emotion or a causal mechanism.
THE APPROACH IN DETAIL
What needs to be understood or decided? Prototype differentiation, a target emotional experience, a sensory parameter, a usage ritual or a proposed benefit. We specify the consumers, context and outcomes relevant to the question.
The question determines the protocol. Products and experiences to compare, control conditions, timing of assessment and evaluation criteria establish what the study can conclude.
Psychological measures examine subjective experience. Sensory and psychophysical approaches investigate perception. Behavioural and expressive observations document interaction, choice, attention or speech. Physiological measurements contribute when the hypothesis requires them.
An increase in electrodermal activity alone does not identify pleasure, curiosity, frustration or stress. The experimental situation and complementary observations constrain plausible interpretations. We examine divergence as well as convergence, and distinguish observations, supported explanations and mechanisms requiring further evidence.
The report connects results to prototype differences, development hypotheses, the target experience and benefit statements supported by the data. Findings are presented with their population, usage conditions and limits of generalisation.
SCIENTIFIC OUTPUTS
Depending on the project: a study protocol, prototype comparison, emotional experience profile, development recommendations or a scientific report. Publication support can be included when relevant to the research objective.
