Methods selected for the research question
Measures provide information about different components of an experience. The protocol establishes their contribution, timing, comparison conditions and limits.
Psychological and psychometric assessment
Self-reports, scales and consumer tasks examine subjective experience, appreciation and specified emotional outcomes. Their interpretation depends on wording, population, timing and measurement properties.
Sensory research and psychophysics
Characterise perceived attributes and responses to variations in product characteristics. Comparisons inform sensory differentiation and the investigation of candidate development variables.
Behaviour and visual attention
Tasks and eye-tracking can document choice, approach, response times or visual exploration. Looking at an item does not by itself establish liking or a specific emotion.
Vocal expression — EmoVoc™
Vocal prosody provides expressive information used in emotional assessment. Interpretation considers speech content, recording conditions and the experimental comparison.
Psychophysiology and EEG — EmoWave™
Physiological activity and EEG provide additional observations when relevant to the hypothesis. They require signal quality checks, appropriate analyses and contextual interpretation alongside other measures. An EEG output alone does not identify a unique emotion.
Subjective, expressive and somatic components
The methods chapter by Vial and Aubert distinguishes three complementary components. Psychometric and cognitive tasks address subjective experience; behavioural methods document expression; physiological methods examine somatic activity. Their selection follows the objective and the eliciting situation.
Product assessment frameworks
EmoLite™ supports early prototype screening. EmoChar™ structures emotional characterisation across awakening, relaxation, sensuality, pleasure, tenderness, amusement and self-esteem. EmoSense supports subjective emotional assessment. EmoFood addresses food experience. The protocol specifies the outputs relevant to each project and the limits of their use.
