Fragrance use and sleep assessment
Published application: Descoubes et al. (2025), chapter 8, pp. 115–127.
Research question
How does sleep change during use of a pillow mist, assessed with complementary subjective and actigraphic outcomes?
Protocol
29 healthy adults aged 20–50 used a pillow mist containing the White Relaxing fragrance for 28 days. A baseline week without product was compared with the last week of use. Assessments included actigraphy, sleep diaries, Pichot fatigue and Epworth sleepiness scales.
Reported result
The chapter reports reduced subjective fatigue and sleepiness, improved perceived sleep quality and improved actigraphic sleep efficiency after use.
Relevance and scope
The design distinguishes felt benefits from movement-derived sleep estimates. This before–after study has no parallel placebo group described in the protocol. It documents changes during use but cannot fully isolate fragrance-specific effects from time, expectations and other influences.
